Ingredients:

  • Dry Spanish red wine (or use merlot), 1 bottle
  • Orange juice, from 1-2 oranges
  • Orange sliced, from 1 orange
  • Whole cinnamon, 1-2 sticks
  • Whole star anise, 3 pcs
  • Whole cloves, 3 pcs
  • Whole cardamon, 1/2 tsp (about 5 pcs)
  • Whole nutmeg, half, grated
  • Vanilla extract (optional)
  • Honey or maple syrup (optional)
  • Spiced rum, 50 ml (optional)

Steps:

  1. In a sauce pan, put in the wine and everything else (spices, fruits, and sweetener).
  2. Heat them up on a very low heat, bring it to simmer, about 15 minutes or so. Avoid boiling, otherwise the alcohol will evaporate.
  3. Serve hot.
